Collection: CO2 Inflators
Bicycle CO2 inflators are the ultimate "get home fast" tool for cyclists. These ultra-compact devices use canisters of compressed carbon dioxide to inflate a tire in seconds, eliminating the hundreds of strokes required by a manual mini pump. They are a favorite for racers and weight-conscious riders because they can easily disappear into a saddlebag or jersey pocket.
How They Work
CO2 inflators consist of a small head that attaches to your tire valve and a cartridge (sold separately or in kits) that provides the air. When you pierce the cartridge, the gas is released into the tire at high pressure. This rapid burst of air is also the most effective way to re-seat a tubeless tire bead on the trail.
Top CO2 Inflator Recommendations
The Lezyne Control Drive is widely considered one of the best for precision. It features a CNC-machined control knob that allows you to "dial in" the airflow rather than releasing it all at once. It’s compatible with both Presta and Schrader valves and includes a neoprene sleeve to protect your hands from the freezing canister.
For maximum versatility, the Planet Bike Airship 2.0 is a standout because it accepts both threaded and non-threaded 16g cartridges. Its "auto head" automatically adjusts to the valve type, and it's built from lightweight aluminum to keep your kit as light as possible.
-
Threaded vs. Non-Threaded: Most modern inflators use threaded cartridges (which screw into the head for a secure seal). Non-threaded cartridges are often cheaper but require a specific type of "cup" or enclosed inflator head.
-
Cartridge Size: Use a 16g cartridge for standard road tires (700c) and a 20g or 25g cartridge for high-volume mountain bike or gravel tires.
-
The "Freezing" Effect: When CO2 is released, the cartridge becomes extremely cold almost instantly. Always use an insulator sleeve or wear gloves to avoid skin burns.
-
Temporary Fix: CO2 molecules are smaller than oxygen, meaning they leak out of rubber tubes faster. You should always bleed the CO2 out and refill your tire with regular air once you get home.
Would you like to see some multi-packs of CO2 cartridges or a saddlebag to store your new inflator kit?
