Compatibility & Size Guide

Front derailleurs are not "one size fits all." To get the right fit, you need to match these four key specifications:

1. Mounting Styles

• Clamp-on: Attaches directly to the seat tube. Most modern bikes use 34.9mm, but older steel frames often use 28.6mm. Many models include shims to fit multiple sizes.

• Braze-on: Bolts onto a dedicated metal tab already fixed to your frame.

• Direct Mount: Common on modern mountain bikes; the derailleur bolts directly into the frame at a specific point (e.g., High Direct, E-type).

2. Swing Type

• Top Swing (Low Clamp): The pivot is below the clamp.

• Bottom Swing (High Clamp): The pivot is above the clamp.

• Side Swing: A modern design where the cable pulls from the front for better tire clearance.
